TEAMWORK IN COMPETITIVE SPORTS LIKE GYMNASTICS !
“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships” (Michael Jordan)
Gymnastics IS a Team Sport !
Gymnastics is a competitive sport and when it comes to meets, gymnasts perform their routines individually. Each gymnast receives a different score than one another but that does not mean they are not a team.
In GymSport classes (circus / aerial arts / acro /rhythmic etc) all students from preschool age onto Squad Elite levels are in a group. Each athlete within their groups are working on common goals. During Comp teams if one person is lacking in a skill then the whole team is there to pick them up.
During Preschool classes (1-5 years) the whole structure is about team work - Lifting the parachute up at the same time, learning to wait in line and take turns. Students of all ages and abilities are learning new skills and at times each students take turn to demonstrate a skill.
It is important for encouragement and healthy relationships within the whole group. The coach is not the only one encouraging students, but within the group having each student encouraging one another !
Gymnasts need their teammates for that support to help them get through their fears and cheer them on. It is hard to perform the routines, especially when it is individually. Your gymnast’s teammates are the only ones that truly understand your gymnast and how difficult skills can be. Mental and physical support is great for your gymnast’s well-being as well as giving them confidence, so they feel cared about. You want the best for your gymnast and Their team. if there ever is a situation where your gymnast feels uncomfortable, confront your gymnast’s coach so he/she can have a talk with the team.
Being a Team will teach a young gymnast how to coordinate routines, listen to constructive criticism, and support others. These skills will help when that gymnast works on a team for a school project or joins a team of workers in a future career.
A teamwork environment promotes an atmosphere that fosters friendship and loyalty. These close-knit relationships motivate Gymnasts in parallel and align them to work harder, cooperate and be supportive of one another. Individuals possess diverse talents, weaknesses, communication skills, strengths, and habits.
Learning Good sportsmanship and Teamwork in GymSports from a young age will develop each individual into strong leaders. With perseverance, determination and TEAMWORK !
